The AIA’s Core Principles & Concepts course is an important step in achieving the designation of Certified Aviation Insurance Professional (CAIP). This two-day program covers everything from risk management, aviation insurance law and contracts, hull and liability, CGL, claims, and much more. Case studies are also reviewed and discussed to assist students in connecting course material with the real world.

In-Person Attendees (20 students maximum): Core Principles will be hosted by AIA Member Amundsen Davis in Chicago, Illinois (150 N Michigan Ave, Ste 3300, Chicago, IL 60601). The class location is approximately 18 miles from the Chicago O'Hare International Airport. Breakfast and lunch provided for onsite attendees both days.

Virtual Attendees (20 students maximum): The course will also be live-streamed via a ZOOM meeting. You must have a webcam and microphone available for this course so you can interact with the instructors. If you will be requesting CIE credits for this course, various state requirements must be met to verify participation.

General Course Details

This course occurs over two days with an optional two-hour exam proctored online during the two weeks following the course. AIA will work with all students to schedule exact times.

CIE Credits: This course is eligible for up to 16 CIE credits (Note, if you need credits in a specific state other than the state associated with your registration/membership record, please notify us immediately.)

Expert, Face-to-Face Instruction: Our instructors have more than 65 years of combined experience in the aviation industry and were instrumental in the development of this course.

In-Person Attendees: Breakfast and lunch are included during the course, along with afternoon refreshments.

The Core Principles final exam is optional and proctored online via ZOOM meeting.The AIA team will work with students if none of the exam dates/times work for their schedules. Please note, completing the Core Principles course and passing the exam with a score of 75+ is required for individuals working towards the Certified Aviation Insurance Professional (CAIP) designation.

The Core Principles Workbook was developed and is regularly updated by the AIA Education Committee with assistance from aviation insurance experts from all facets of the industry. It provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary overview of the aviation insurance industry. A digital version is included with your course registration.
